In retrospect, Wil wishes there had been a proper row over that business in the journals. There would have been quite a lot of yelling, and maybe a bit of throwing convenient but ultimately harmless items and his mum would have fretted, but it would have burned itself out quickly enough. He'd be out getting pissed with Sam instead of sitting here alone reading a bloody book, of all things. Being alone isn't the worst of it, though—Wil's used enough to that. It's the heavy, unshakable sense of betrayal and unworthiness, both of which are edging him into unfamiliar territory.

He doesn't like it, and just now, he greatly resents Sam for making him feel this way even a bit. Reprimanded—Publicly, no less!—and then thrown over not just for a girl, but a girl who is an absolute nutter.

Obviously it's complete coincidence that, in the entirety of this great, big house, he just happens to be reading his book in a chair in the room with the Floo Network connection, and said chair just happens to be facing the fireplace so that, when the telltale green flames alight, he can lower the book just enough to glare stonily over the top of it at the skinny figure who emerges.

"Oh it's best for him that he doesn't," Sam says, though he can't really put a finger on exactly why he doesn't like Jinxsley. It's not as if he's failing Charms over it, or, were he failing any class, it would be anything to do with anything other than opting not to go. "Otherwise I might find him sulking about with books he couldn't be arsed to read any other time, waiting for me to come home."
